About this role
A scoping and advisory role in Earthjustice's International Program, working with public interest partners in South Africa and the Southern African region to protect biodiversity and community access to land and sea resources. The attorney finds opportunities for litigation, administrative advocacy and law reform, helps partner organisations develop legal and regulatory strategies, drafts legal and policy memoranda, works with technical experts, and joins regular virtual and in-person meetings with the programme teams. Remote within South Africa with periodic travel. The attorney is engaged as an employee of an Employer of Record, not by Earthjustice directly. Applications received by Friday 6 November 2026 get priority, and later ones may be reviewed on a rolling basis until the role is filled.

Meeting the lines is the start. How clearly your file shows them is a separate question, and it is the work we do.
A rare remote seat for an environmental or public interest lawyer who wants to shape strategy with partners across Southern Africa, not carry a litigation caseload.
Write a one-page scoping note on one threat to marine or coastal biodiversity in South Africa: the legal tools available, who could bring a challenge, and the first three people you would speak to.
