About this role
A Pretoria role inside the National Payment System (NPS) division of the South African Reserve Bank. The Policy Research Specialist monitored and analysed local, regional, and global regulatory developments in the payments space, conducted impact assessments on proposed policy and licensing frameworks, and advised internal and external stakeholders on policy and regulatory matters under the National Payment System Act and the Financial Sector Regulation Act. As at 6 August 2026, the SARB's own careers portal states this job "is no longer available", and it does not appear in the Bank's current list of open roles: monitor for a future re-posting.

Meeting the lines is the start. How clearly your file shows them is a separate question, and it is the work we do.
The Reserve Bank explicitly lists Law as one of three qualifying Honours fields alongside Economics and Finance. This is central-bank-level regulatory work: reading and applying legislation, assessing policy impact, and advising on licensing frameworks, the exact skill set an LLB with a regulatory bent builds toward.
Draft a one-page impact assessment for a fictional new payment innovation, identifying the licensing requirements it would trigger under the National Payment System Act and the key stakeholders you would consult before recommending approval.
